POTTSBORO, Texas (KXII) - For 50 years, the Tanglewood Tower has watched over the waters at Lake Texoma.
It’s a working lighthouse, a hotel, and a whisky bar.
But General Manager Bobby Dyer said the best part of all is the view.
“The ability to look around at the highest point, the 360 visibility of the surrounding areas, the beauty of our landscape, I think it’s breathtaking,” Dyer said.
The lower floors are hotel suites, but floor eight is a whiskey bar and floor nine is an observation deck.
The tower was built in 1974 and designed by renowned architect O’Neil Ford, who was born in Grayson County in 1905.
Ford had a unique style: a mix of European flair combined with true Texas architecture.
Ford’s style plays a major influence in Southwest style architecture even today, and solidified his role in history.
Dyer says that’s not lost on his team.
“We really keyed in on the focus of embracing our rich history, understanding our present, and looking towards the future,” he said.
On Friday evening, they’ll be celebrating that history with a half-century bash at the Tanglewood Resort.
“We want everyone to come and enjoy it,” Dyer said. “Break bread with us, enjoy that 50 year history that we’ve all been a part of in some capacity.”
There will be live music from John Crocker, dozens of drinks to try, and of course, everyone can sample the views.
”You can see Oklahoma, you can see Texas, you can see the lake, you can see the boats, you can visit with our wonderful team,” Dyer said. “It’s just a really cool synergy to see that.”
The event starts at 5 p.m. and runs until midnight, and the first 25 guests will receive a special commemorative gift.
