Kid-Friendly Things to Do In Dallas: Your Itinerary

Just because we selected kid-friendly things to do in Dallas doesn’t mean that adults won’t have fun too. Foodies, photographers, and sightseers alike will be happy with this itinerary alongside their children. The possibilities for Dallas day trips are endless.

1. Eat the Best Breakfast in Plano, TX

After you’ve been on the road for an hour, you’ll be hungry for the most important meal of the day. Set up your day for success by eating at Whisk & Eggs in Legacy Food Hall in Plano, TX. On top of spectacular breakfast sandwiches, choose between sweet and savory crepes, like the  Madame Du-Berry or Chicken pesto crepe.

2. Walk Through the Sixth Floor Museum Exhibits

Drive for just half an hour more and arrive at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. This museum gives context to the President John F. Kennedy assassination, so it’s one of the more educational kid-friendly things to do in Dallas.  One of the Sixth Floor Museum exhibits replicates the exact spot from which the shooter was standing on that day in 1963. Perhaps you’re traveling with both little ones and young adults or teens, but this will be one of the best kid-friendly things to do in Dallas that the entire family will enjoy.

3. Stop at Klyde Warren Park

One of the most exciting parts of touring a new place is finding attractions unique to the city. Klyde Warren Park is a deck park, with its five acres perched above the freeway. While you’re up there, play croquet or chess, visit the game room, listen to live music, stop at the food trucks, or visit the children’s park.

4. Grab a Midday Treat at Howdy Homemade Ice Cream

If you already snagged a snack at one of Klyde Warren Park’s food trucks, cap off your midday meal with a trip to Howdy Homemade Ice Cream. This shop is famous for its Dr. Pepper chocolate chip ice cream, but if you’re not that adventurous, try one of their other 36 flavors like Hot Tamales, Orange Dreamsicle, or Fun-L Cake.

5. Play at the Legoland Discovery Center ‘

After you’ve got your kids on a sugar high from the ice cream, burn off their energy by letting them play at the Legoland Discovery Center. While it’s not a full-blown Legoland like in California, the attraction has three rides, a 4-D cinema, and several build-and-play areas so your little architect can let their imagination soar. This just might be your son or daughter’s choice for one of the most fun things to do in Dallas with kids.

6. Take Festive Pictures at the Dallas Arboretum in Fall

Make your second-to-last stop at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Every autumn, they create a village with 90,000 pumpkins. Visiting the Dallas Arboretum in fall is an excellent opportunity to get festive pictures of your kids among the fall oranges that we all love, especially during golden hour.

7. Indulge at Lakewood Smokehouse

Finally, prep for the short road trip back to Tanglewood Resort by indulging at Lakewood Smokehouse. While your kids browse their own menu, you can choose from pizza, wings, salad, tacos, sandwiches, and burgers. Of course, don’t forget to pair your much-needed hearty meal with an ice-cold draft beer in hand!
